When the temperature rises, it’s tempting to throw your hair into a cheerleader ponytail or think about chopping it all off. Don’t sweat it: We’ve rounded up a bunch of easy hairstyles that keep your hair off your face and neck, and still keep you looking chic and pulled together. Voluminous Ponytail For a style that’s dinner- and heat-approved, tie your hair up between the nape of the neck and the tip of your ear. By sectioning the hair into two elastics, you’ll achieve more volume than tying it all with one elastic. For an even more polished look, pull out a section of hair below the ponytail and wrap it around the elastic, securing with bobby pins. Rope Braid When a basic pony won’t cut it, try a two-strand rope braid for an alternative style that’s chic, too. French Braid Ponytail Appropriate enough for the office yet fun enough for a beach day, a French braid ponytail is versatile and easy to style. Ballerina Bun To keep it quick, don’t worry about perfection. Loose strands keep this look relaxed and modern. Textured hair works better here—if you have smooth or freshly washed hair, spritz with a texturizing spray before styling. For a more un-done look, pull out a few pieces of hair to frame your face. Slicked Half-Up, Half-Down Slick this—a half-up, half-down style—back at the top to give it an elegant makeover . Keep it modern by leaving the bottom half in beachy waves. Bohemian Twists This do is perfect if you’re growing out bangs or simply want to keep your hair off your face. Rolled Updo for Short Hair When a lob is too short for a ponytail but you need to get your hair off your face, try this twisted look. Rolled Updo for Long Hair The rolled updo, which creates a low ponytail first, also works with long hair. On humid days, add a thick headband or scarf to any updo to keep frizz at bay. It also hides the signs of day two or three hair. ![]() We use organic skincare, we eat organic, we use organic cleaning products but why don’t we use organic hair dye? That was my thinking when I decided that I had enough of bleach and wanted to try out organic hair dye. Seemed like a good idea at the time, sadly, dying my hair with all organic henna based dye by Colora didn’t turn out to be quite as good as my hopes. I’ve heard of henna and organic hair dyes for quite some time now, I’ve always stopped by the booths at trade shows and read several blog posts from fellow hair enthusiasts on it. Benefits include keeping your hair shaft in tact, increasing the strength of your hair and shine. So after not touching my hair for over 4 months, I decided that I am going to stop bleaching and go organic. I’ve been blonde or a version of blonde for over 10 years and was in the mood for a change. I’ve also yet to find a bleach that doesn’t dry my hair out, yes I’ve used Olaplex and no I’m not crazy about it (it’s great and all just not revolutionary for me and still causes damage). My hair is thicker and has more shine when it is in its natural state so going with an all organic dye seemed to make sense to me. Not wanting to commit to dark red like typical 100% henna dye, I looked at other types of dye that produce lighter colors like gold and golden brown. Little did I know this is VERY important, if you chose dye that has metals, indigo, or plant based dye it makes it that much harder to remove. BE CAREFUL WHEN CHOOSING YOUR DYE! I chose a brand called Colora, I read a lot of reviews, none of them seemed negative. It is 100% plant based and organic, very affordable and not permanent (or so they say). In addition, Colora offers a wide range of shades from strawberry blonde to black, I chose “GOLDEN BROWN”. My rendition of “GOLDEN BROWN” is butterscotch or dark caramel color. I knew there was a risk of having red hints but since the product advertises itself as being not permanent, I wasn’t too worried - “it’ll wash out” I thought. Colora Hair Color GuideOff I go! The instructions on the box indicate that you have to leave it for 1.5 hours for results, and if you want the color to be more intense you can leave it in for longer. So I mix the paste, I put it in my hair, shower cap goes on and I wait. One and a half hours goes by, I go to the bathroom and peek under the cap. RED, all I see is RED, and not cute strawberry blonde red, fire red! I freak out and tell myself “I just need to intensify this color” and I decide to wait longer. In retrospect, this was a bad decision made in panic mode and I should have rinsed off the dye right there and then. BUT, for whatever reason, still holding on to hopes that I will get my Golden Brown, I decided to wait and after 2 hours I go in the shower to rinse. DARK RED, all I see after the rinse is DARK RED. I didn't get any strange smells from the dye that some reviews say, I also had it all out with one wash, but the color was most certainly a far cry from Golden Brown. At this point realizing that this was an EPIC FAIL and there is no brown in sight, I washed my hair two more times and the color did lift however, still remained red. Me being not too uptight (most of the time) I decided to embrace this change, after all this is what I wanted. I called my fiancé in a panic, he calmed me down (as per usual) and told me that change is good and to not “mess around” with dye anymore. So, I matched my hair to Color 30 in Bohyme Extensions, got myself some tape-ins and life was starting to look alright again. Here are my results from this fiasco: Before Natural Brown top with Ombre Blonde bottomsHair After Colora Dye in "Golden Brown"MAJOR LESSONS LEARNED:
SAVING GRACE MOMENT: If you do have a color oops moment, there are HAIR EXTENSIONS! I can match even the craziest hair colors with Bohyme Extensions and it will look better with them in…trust me! My current extensions color is #30THE ONLY POSITIVE out of this experience is that my hair is much thicker and stronger. Henna does have this effect on hair; it improves strength, increases shine and overall health of the hair. Ironically this IS what I wanted after all, but was it worth going red for? Not for me. I am getting married in about 3.5 months and I want to go back to blonde or at least lighter than this red for my wedding. BUT now that I am doing all the proper research, I’m learning that getting henna out of your hair apparently is the hardest thing you will ever do. My next blog post will be about getting this sucker out of my hair, and I hope I come out alive so stay tuned! #henna #mehndi #ibeautydaily #whitehenna #wakeupandmakeup #zentangle #boho #monakattan #flowers #hennadesign #tattoo #girlyhenna #art #inspo #hennainspo #hennaart #photooftheday #mendhi #hennaartist #hennatattoo #naturalhenna #bridalhenna #7enna #doodle #mandala #trendsandco #beauty #love #hennastyle #hennastain #thehairshop #colora #hennadye #hennahair #hennahairdye #hennatutorial #organichairsolutions #veganhairdye #vegancolor #veganlifestyle #allnaturalhairdye #growyourhair
Coming straight out of Portland, it's so nice to see an all natural organic skincare line take some roots in an industry that is full of chemicals, marketing gimmicks, and false promises. These products are one of those true hand-crafted bottles of that are sure to nourish your skin. I've always had great skin, it is naturally oily giving me a little bit of a "glow" without any highlight products that they have now. Shortly After I turned 30, I got a sudden rash breakout on my forehead. Immediately I went to the doctor who said it was "probably stress" and prescribed me a cortisol cream which I used religiously that entire week. Cortisol is a steroid hormone, in the glucocorticoid class of hormones and basically is the worst thing you can put on your skin. Cortisol temporary suppresses the outbreaks, however, your body builds immunity and comes back ten times stronger. This cream made my rashes not only come back but come back with a vengeance, I was devastated. Over the next two years I went to three dermatologists, all of them had different diagnosis from rosacea to dermatitis to allergies. I've had to take anti-bacterial medication, topical creams (which I refused to take after my cortisol disaster) and tried to avoid certain foods in hopes of figuring out if it was an allergy. None of these diagnostics were truly 100% correct as my symptoms didn't match up perfectly so I still don't really know what happened. Maybe soon IBM Watson will be able to give me diagnostics but last year I chose to quit all medication, cold turkey. I started using only organic skincare lines and really try not to overwhelm my skin too much with product. I use ZO Medical now for my cleansers, go to a local Medi Spa once a month for a facial, and that seems to keep my skin happy. I also use Finacea cream which helped me A LOT in my outbreak recovery. Finacea has Azelaic acid helps the skin to renew itself more quickly and therefore reduces pimple and blackhead formation. It also helps to kill the bacteria that cause acne. It took about 3 months to get completely clear and now I use it only for those moments when I do get outbreaks. I love this cream but it is a prescription so I try to use it only when necessary. Back to the point of this blog post, organic skincare lines don't get the credit that they need. Sephora is full of skin products but the more choices they have the more problems stays the same. A lot of high end lines use fillers and synthetics to keep costs low and revenue high. Read the labels on the products, how many of them are filled with words you can't pronounce? Chances are, if it's synthetic, it will block your pores. This post is a review of a wonderful organic line out of Portland started by girlboss Jasmine Tran. Growing up in Vietnam, Jasmine Tran watched her mother cook nourishing meals every day from scratch, adding fresh herbs from the garden. Inspired by this experience, Jasmine incorporated her passion for nature and wellness into her work creating organic skincare products. Follow these easy tricks! Don’t let the sun bring your hair down.
Throughout the year we emphasize keeping our hair healthy and shiny by using many different products and remedies. By the time summer rolls around, our go-to tricks aren’t as reliable due to the dryer weather. The outer layer of what is considered healthy hair, contains a natural oil to keep it moist and shiny. When this layer is damaged, your hair can end up looking dull, unhealthy and dry. Some factors to keep in mind that contribute to dull hair are your use of harsh hair care products (be careful ladies!), bad quality conditioner, over exposure to sun (yes!), use of hair color products (bleach), age, stress, swimming pools and use of heating tools. In the warmer and more humid months, it’s essential to try and limit your use of hot hair tools. The combination of the hot tools and the sun will leave your hair brittle, dull and lifeless. Try to embrace the convenience of the warmer summer months, especially when vacationing in warmer climates. Allow your hair to air dry, which will provide natural beach waves which are trendy, sexy and feminine! Most of us are known to be drawn to conditioners, shampoos and shine serums that we see in advertisements and products that are recommended by our stylists. It’s important to realize that over a period of time, these products could potentially cause even more damage to your hair (chemicals!). In this blog we will discuss some very simple and natural remedies to make hair smooth and shiny. You will learn techniques that will ensure you don’t damage your hair this summer. Happy reading gals! From young and innocent, to bold and vixen, here we highlight starlets that have changed dramatically over the years as they’ve grown into their celebrity livelihoods. These stars are known for a distinct beauty that is well sought after, often replicated by their followers and fans continually day after day. These ladies have looks that are so versatile; they can go from soft and luscious girl-next-door to a dark, bold & even a gothic look within moments.
